The schedule below is a record of what we have actually done as well as an approximate projection of what we will do. Readings, homework assignments, and worksheets will be posted as they are assigned. Most homework problems will come from The Book of Proof (freely available online; click on the title for a link). Homework sets are due by 4:00 PM on the date indicated. Portfolio entries (including revised proofs) should be copied into your OneDrive folder by the end of the due date.
- Week 1
- 1/12: discuss the syllabus and the proof portfolio (and maybe some questions or psuedaria).

- Week 2
- 1/17: MLK Day; no class.

- 3/25: Portfolio review. Homework due today:

- Ch. 10: 1, 2, 8, 13, 19, 20 (suggested, but optional: 5, 15)
- Week 11
- 3/28: Continue chapter 10.
- 3/30: Review for the take-home exam on chapters 5-10 (proofs of all kinds).
- Class is optional: use the time in whatever way is most helpful.
- An excerpt from another book.
- An old exam on chapters 6-9.
- The exam will be open from 6:00 AM Wednesday to 6:00 PM Thursday.
- Once you start, you have 120 minutes (2 hours) to complete the exam.
- Plan to work from notes and other materials (reference to definitions is essential for proofs); organize ahead of time.
- 4/1: More chapter 10 (strong induction). Portfolio proof D (.tex) due by 11:59 PM today.
- Week 12
- 4/4: Portfolio review. Read 10.2 Proof by Strong Induction and 10.3 Proof by Smallest Counterexample.
- 4/6: Chapter 11. Start a worksheet (also in .tex).
