Schedule
The schedule below is a record of what we have actually done as well as a rolling estimate for what we will do. Assignments, worksheets, and exams will be posted here after they are distributed in class. Problem numbers for assignments will refer to the 8th edition of the textbook. Students with the 7th edition should determine the correct numbers for their edition.

- Turn in 9 clear, complete, concise solutions;
- If correct, you will earn 50% of points you missed on the exam;
- No partial credit, but you may resubmit each week until Exam 2.

- The solution in the back for #25 may be wrong (and the statement of the problem is confusing). Use a binomial expansion to get a solution entirely in terms of moments about the origin.

- Week 9
- 10/25: Wrap up chapter 5. Homework:
- A set of problems due 10/30;
- Chapter 4: 35, 47 and Chapter 5: 7, 35, 45, 46b, 51, 52, 59, 63 all due 11/1.
- 10/27: A worksheet on 6.3.
- 10/25: Wrap up chapter 5. Homework:
- Week 10
- 10/30: 6.2-5.
- 11/1: A summary of special continuous distributions.
- 11/3: Review. A summary of moments and summary of special discrete distributions.
- Week 11
- 11/6: Exam. Formulas from the exam.
- 11/8: 6.5
- 11/10: 6.5 and 8.1-2. Homework:
- Add the first and second digits of your numbers from problem 1 of the HW set due 10/30 to 421-F17-Digits (due 11/13);
- Chapter 6: 31a, 32 (just show that n(x; μ, σ) is a solution to the differential equation), 33 (just find the mean and variance; use RX(t) = ln[MX(t)]), 63, 66, 67, 68, 70, 73 (due 11/15).
- Week 12
- 11/13: 7.5 and proof of the CLT.
- 11/15: Finish the proof of the CLT.
- 11/17: a worksheet on 6.6.
- Week 13
- 11/20: a worksheet on Pareto distributions.
- Week 14
- 11/27: Turn in the worksheets from 11/17 and 11/20. Deadline for exam 2 corrections:
- Turn in 9 clear, complete, concise solutions;
- If correct, you will earn 25% of points you missed on the exam;
- No partial credit, but you may resubmit as often as you want until the Final Exam
- 11/29: 8.3 Homework assigned (due 12/6):
- Chapter 8: 2, 3, 11, 18, 62, 63, 64, 66, 67, 68
- Chapter 7: None if Friday's worksheet is done
- 12/1: 7.1-3 and a worksheet
- 11/27: Turn in the worksheets from 11/17 and 11/20. Deadline for exam 2 corrections:

- Office hours: Monday 1-3, Wednesday 1-3, and Thursday 10-11
- Final for the 10:00 section: Tuesday 1-3 PM
- Final for the 11:00 section: Thursday 8-10 AM
- Final exam bonus project:
- Ask Dr. Axon to assign you 2 countries
- Use the Gini coefficient on Wikipedia's List of countries by distribution of wealth to calculate the version of the 80-20 rule that holds for your 2 countries (e.g. the Gini coefficient of 0.801 for the US means wealth here follows a 82.5-17.5 rule)
