CTA Archives: This link features access to material from past CTA events.

One of the goals of the CTA is to maintain a physical and digital library of teaching and advising resources, including a video archive of CTA-sponsored workshops and lectures. Our collection of those materials will take some time to assemble, however. Until then, we're pleased to provide links to other digital collections that offer excellent resources for teachers and advisors.

A Berkeley Compendium of Suggestions for Teaching with Excellence -- Not a visually-appealing site and, as the disclaimer indicates, slightly dated, but all that aside, offers perhaps one of the very best and most comprehensive set of tips and suggestions on common teaching issues.

The Scholar as Teacher Tip Sheet Index -- This series, published as part of Princeton University's own teaching and learning center (The McGraw Center), offers helpful tips on everything from "The First Day of Class" to "What To Do When Class Discussion Stalls."

UVA's Compilation of University Teaching Handbooks -- This website features an exhaustive collection of "teaching handbooks" published by various American universities. It takes a while to open and dig through each handbook, but the effort is well worth it. Some handbooks are truly excellent resources, such as Brown University's "Teaching at Brown" and Stanford University's "Teaching at Stanford" (which even offers advice on "ways to handle teaching nervousness").

The Teaching-Advising Connection -- A 5-part online essay, published in The Mentor: An Academic Advising Journal, this scholarly text presents a discussion of the nature of academic advising, including a treatment of issues such as "How do faculty perceive their roles as academic advisors?" "Do effective teachers and effective advisers do the same things?" and "Can academic advising qualify as a scholarly activity?"

Academic Advising Handbook -- Use the quick links at the top of this online handbook to jump to a quick discussion of such topics such as "Strategies of Advisement," "The Do's of Academic Advising" and "Legal Issues of Advising."

NACADA's Advising Resources on the Internet -- The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) offers a warehouse of information on university advising on itswebsite. The "Advising Guides & Manuals" link will take you to a range of advising handbooks published by American universities, all with specific tips and strategies for being a good advisor.
